About Hope Church

Hope Church, Bangor is part of the Salt & Light family of Churches.  We are a lively, family church with a relaxed, informal and contemporary style, keen to work with other churches in Bangor to reach the people of Bangor with the truth, life and hope of the Christian gospel.

Sunday morning worship in Ysgol Friars

A group of about 20 of us planted Hope Church from Caernarfon Pentecostal Church in September 2003.  We originally met weekly in Cae Top School, Upper Bangor but now with a congregation of over 60 have outgrowth the hall and have started meeting in Ysgol Friars at 10.30am on Sundays.  We have five cell groups which continue to grow and incorporate most of the regular members of our congregation.

We have a varied congregation, with families, students and children all worshipping alongside one another.  We also have a variety of nationalities represented including Welsh, English, Irish and Patagonian.

Why not come along and join us!

Vision & Values

We have certain beliefs and values which determine how we want to live together.

We are evangelical. We are members of the Evangelical Alliance and are committed to certain beliefs as set out in their Basis of Faith (www.eauk.org/about/basis-of-faith.cfm) and shared by the vast majority of Evangelicals worldwide. These beliefs include the divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Bible as the foundation of all that we believe.

We are charismatic. We believe that the life of God comes to us through the Holy Spirit and we want to experience God’s manifest presence as we worship and pray. We see the Holy Spirit’s ministry and gifts in the daily life of the believer and the church as a key to holiness, fruitfulness and effective mission.

Some values that make us distinctive as a church include:

Family is at the heart of how we are called to build together. We hope to be approachable, accessible and encourage a sense of belonging, love, joy, security, friendship, generosity, encouragement, care and fellowship.

Discipleship is key to Growing in Maturity. We want to know more of God’s truth through understanding what the Bible says, and developing a deeper relationship with Jesus. We are all disciples, encouraging and equipping one another to live an authentic Christian life. The Word of God, worship and prayer are foundational to our life in Christ and we want our lives to be transformed and shaped more and more each day by experiencing the reality of God’s life in us.

We are on a Mission, living as salt and light in the world. The hope we have in Jesus is so wonderful we have to share it!  We want to see as many people as possible finding new hope in Jesus and becoming bringers of hope to others. Therefore we want to be proclaiming the Good News; demonstrating the Good News in every aspect of culture and society; and seeing lives transformed by the power of Jesus.

We are building God’s church together, with every member playing its part and finding ways of using our God-given gifts in our daily lives. We value diversity and believe this helps us understand and enjoy the richness of the Body of Christ as we live in an atmosphere of respect and mutual appreciation.

Christ’s primary call on our lives is to be people who are centred on Him and seeking His Kingdom. We are building His church, in His strength and for His glory, not our own.
